Magdalena Matias
She was born and raised in Ponce Puerto Rico. As a young child enjoyed painting and drawing landscapes, fruit and marines scenes. While in high school she participated in an art contest in which, she was awarded a scholarship to study at a local academy of art. through this experience, she was able to participate in art classes taught by Jose azaustre Muro, a well recognized artist from Spain. She enjoys using oil as my favorite medium for paint. With this medium she can express better her realistic style and ideas.
She obtained a Bachelors Degree in Plastics Arts in the World University of Puerto Rico with a Major concentration in art and minor concentration in Education. She taught art in a private catholic school for 16 years. She participated in collective exhibitions at The Sheraton Hotel in Puerto Rico in 1986. She resigned her job and moved to Tampa, Florida in 1987. For couples of years she was not painting as she did in Puerto Rico. She dedicated to her family, husband Agustin Negron and her three daughters Magdalena, Rebecca and Mayra. Now I have the time to do what I like best,” painting.”
